'Photography is intrinsically linked to vision in the way that objects appear. The way that light emits from the object and touches the eye is indexical in much the same way that light etches into the sensitive surface of film. This trace, a referent to the real object, travels to the retina/sensitive surface allowing an image to transpire. I use photography, shooting on traditional photographic film, to explore the interaction between light, objects and the camera/eye to depict the importance of an event that we usually take for granted.

My work looks at Phenomenology - the structure of different forms of experience including perception, thought, memory, imagination, emotion and desire. Through the use of multiple exposures the work depicts the joining together and amalgamation of many different images in the same way knowledge is aquired through perceiving. This layering also allows me to capture all of the available light and shadow from the landscape, which merges together to create images that are both beautiful and mysterious.

Throughout the work there exists an understanding of how photography works; an experimentation of techniques that are inherent within the medium, incorporating many of the methods that allows a photograph to transpire. By incorporating all these different effects, my images challenge what we know about the world through vision, which consequently constructs a challenging and stimulating impression on the viewer.' -Paul Gorman
