'Oculus' - Series 4

This work explores human vision and how new perceptions merge with existing ones, conveyed through the use of multiple exposures. The circular motion made between each exposure is suggestive of how the eye is circular. By positioning the sun in the middle of the image, the work reflects on and represents the significance the sun has in our lives as well as our vision. The work challenges what we know about the world, which results in the viewer being captured beneath the surface. It also reflects the transparent nature photographs have. By incorporating many techniques that allow a photograph to transpire and the choices that photographers make each time an image is made, the work therefore is self reflective of the medium. The sharper elements in the photograph provide us with a direction of focus, showing how we are selective of the information we receive and how we intentionally direct our attention to something in the world.
