'Untilted'

Photography is intrinsically linked to vision in terms of how objects appear. The way that light emits from the object and touches the eye is indexical in much the same way that light etches into the sensitive surface of film. This work explores the interaction and touch that must happen in order for photography and vision/perception to occur. By exploring and using my attention in the landscape, I found interesting elements and objects which were placed directly into the camera. Light was allowed through the lens and interacted with the object before the film. The resulting images are of an abstract nature that plays with the association of photography and its bond with reality. This confronts the viewer to ask the questions of how something could be considered a photograph revealing the act of perception and vision itself. We all know how a photograph should look, or that it records the detail of the world with excellent detail. So when placed in front of an abstract photograph we try to consider the relationship to the world through knowledge we have acquired.
